TwinSME Project Launched

February 2026 marked the launch of TwinSME – Twin Transition: Empowering European SMEs for the Digital and Green Future, an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Vocational Education and Training bringing together seven organisations from Slovakia, Greece, Luxembourg, Malta, Spain and Poland.

TwinSME responds to a growing challenge for small and medium-sized enterprises: adapting to digital change while also meeting increasing environmental and sustainability requirements. The project will help SMEs assess where they currently stand, identify areas for improvement and build the knowledge and skills needed to manage both transitions together.

The partnership is coordinated by ENTRE, s.r.o. in Slovakia and includes the Technical University of Košice, IDEC in Greece, the Greece Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, Eurodimensions in Malta, the Basque International Research Association in Spain and Lodz University of Technology in Poland.

Over the course of the project, partners will develop a range of practical resources for SMEs, including a Twin Transition Maturity Framework, a Digital Self-Assessment Tool, tools for green and digital management, educational resources and training for SME managers. Consultation meetings and transnational activities will ensure that these resources are tested against the actual needs and experiences of businesses.

The self-assessment tool will enable SMEs to examine areas such as digitalisation, cybersecurity, energy efficiency and waste management, receive an indication of their level of maturity and identify practical steps for further development.

Training and educational resources will also support SME managers in areas including sustainable management, digital practices, operational efficiency, ESG and relevant international standards. The intention is not simply to raise awareness, but to provide businesses with practical tools that can be applied within their own operations.

By bringing together VET providers, universities, business organisations, consultants and SMEs from across Europe, TwinSME aims to strengthen cooperation between education and business and make the green and digital transition more accessible to smaller companies.

 

Ultimately, the project seeks to help European SMEs become more competitive, resilient and sustainable, while giving managers the confidence and resources needed to respond to a rapidly changing business environment.
