What is TwinSME?
TwinSME – Twin Transition: Empowering European SMEs for the Digital and Green Future is an Erasmus+ KA220-VET project that supports small and medium-sized enterprises in responding to the twin transition: digital transformation and environmental sustainability. It helps SMEs strengthen their readiness, improve management capacity, and develop the competences needed to remain resilient, sustainable, and competitive in a rapidly changing economy.
Why was the project created?
Across Europe, SMEs are facing increasing pressure to modernise, adopt greener practices, and respond to new market and policy demands. Many, however, still lack the practical tools, guidance, and training needed to manage this transition effectively. TwinSME was created to address this need by providing targeted support that helps SMEs understand their current position, identify priorities for improvement, and move forward with greater confidence in both the digital and green dimensions of change.
What are the project objectives?
TwinSME aims to support SMEs in their twin transition by providing practical tools, knowledge, and capacity-building opportunities. The project seeks to improve SMEs’ awareness and readiness, strengthen the digital and green competences of SME managers, promote cooperation between SMEs, education providers, and business support organisations, and contribute to a more sustainable and competitive business environment.
What results will TwinSME deliver?
TwinSME will deliver a digital self-assessment tool, a maturity framework and assessment grid, and a user guide to help SMEs evaluate their progress in the twin transition. It will also produce digital tools for green and digital management systems, educational resources and training materials for SME managers, and consultation and training activities to test and refine the project outputs. Key resources will be made available through the project website in multiple languages, supporting wider access, practical use, and long-term sustainability.
