Why TWIN SME?

Why is support for the digital and green transition so important for SMEs today?

Learn Why

Welcome to - Twin Transition: Empowering European SMEs for the Digital and Green Future (TWIN SME)

The European Union is placing growing importance on the twin transition: the combined shift towards a greener, more sustainable economy and a more digital, innovative Europe. Through major priorities such as the European Green Deal and the Digital Decade, the EU is encouraging businesses, institutions, and education systems to adapt to new environmental, technological, and economic realities. This twin approach recognises that digital progress and sustainability must go hand in hand if Europe is to remain competitive, resilient, and inclusive.

TWIN SME – Twin Transition: Empowering European SMEs for the Digital and Green Future was created to support small and medium-sized enterprises in meeting these new demands. Many SMEs are expected to modernise, improve their digital performance, and adopt greener practices, yet often lack the practical tools, guidance, and training needed to manage this transition effectively. TWIN SME responds to this need by helping SMEs strengthen their awareness, readiness, and management capacity in both the digital and green dimensions of change.

The project will provide practical support through innovative tools, educational resources, and training activities tailored to SME managers. By combining EU policy priorities with the real needs of businesses, TWIN SME aims to help enterprises become more sustainable, more resilient, and more competitive, while also strengthening cooperation between SMEs, education providers, and business support organisations across Europe.

Who is behind TWIN SME?

TWIN SME is an Erasmus+ KA220-VET Cooperation Partnership funded by the European Union. It is a collaborative project in the field of Vocational Education and Training, bringing together a European consortium of partners to respond to a shared challenge: helping SMEs manage the twin transition towards digital transformation and environmental sustainability.

It is based on transnational partnership, shared expertise, and joint development of practical results. The project is led by ENTRE, s.r.o. (Slovakia) and implemented by a consortium of partner organisations from across Europe, combining expertise in VET, research, innovation, SME support, digitalisation, and sustainability. Together, the partners work to develop tools, training, and resources that support SMEs in becoming more resilient, competitive, and future-ready.
